Tucson hit the magic number of 1 million in population in November 2006, three years earlier than city planners anticipated.
By 2040, planners say 10 million people will live in a “megapolitan” area sprawling from Prescott to Sierra Vista. The Old Pueblo is waking up to a busy 2007 in order to prepare for a booming 2008.
Tucson's population and demographics have out grown the small-town feeling the city has tried to hold on to for so long. With the million milestone, Tucson has put its self on the map to become a major player nationally by attracting major corporations, retailers, restaurants, arts, theatre and a host of other services to the area. The region's central Southwestern location serves as a manufacturing, transporting, and distribution center for Mexico, California and the central/western United States.
The city is emerging as a major industrial center, "High-tech, manufacturing, aerospace, optics, biotech and other expanding fields are on the rise. With the right combination of positive influences, Tucson will become a great place to live; work, play and most importantly prosper.
